LOreal 3 x Pure Clay Masks Review

You may be noticing some growing hype around these 3 L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay masks. They’ve been making the rounds in the skincare scenes.

The masks are very easily accessible and can be purchased at a number of places. Some vendors that I have found in Australia include bigger type chemists, some of the grocery stores, beauty stores and of course online. One of the biggest pros of these masks are they are SUPER affordable! Plus they work!  LOreal 3 x Pure Clay Mask Review

L’Oréal Multi-Masking Options

The trio can be used individually as one mask for your whole face or you can multi-mask if you are so adventurous! I can’t seem to get myself to the multi-masking stage because I get so excited and just use one mask for my whole face.

My skin needs all kinds of help and needs any extra boosts with every and any skin concern.

On the L’Oréal website they have the below photo that gives you a visual of how to multi-mask.

I really recommend checking out the site because they share some of the cutest pictures of people doing the multi-masking

About the Masks

In case you haven’t heard or seen these masks I’ll tell you my experience using them.

There are 3 clay masks in this line and they come in these options:

  • Purifying & Mattifying Eucalyptus
  • Exfoliating & Smoothing Red Algae
  • Detoxifying & Brightening Charcoal

All of the masks are clay masks but very easy to apply. Removing the masks is where it requires a little extra elbow grease. I like to remove clay masks using a muslin cloth or if I get myself together and organised I will apply it before I take a shower and wash it off in there. This rarely happens because I’m not that organised and rarely think that far ahead, my intentions are always good but that’s the way I roll.

I always plan ‘okay next week I’m going to start eating better and taking better care of myself’. That’s been my mantra for longer than I care to admit!

I tend to be extremely messy with doing my whole skincare process no matter what I do. Somehow I always manage to dump water onto my shirt, floor, counter, sink and walls!

Please tell me I am not alone here!!

LOreal Pure Clay Mask Purifying - Mattifying Eucalyptus Mask Review

Purifying & Mattifying Eucalyptus Mask

Let me kick off this review with the Eucalyptus mask.

This mask feels so nice on my skin and leaves my skin looking mattified, smoother and clearer. This mask is great for the oily sections of your skin.

The star ingredient of this mask is eucalyptus. The eucalyptus formula works its way deep into the pores to absorb impurities and excess oil.

The texture to this mask is the creamiest of the three. It has a beautiful fresh and clean scent to it. The eucalyptus scent is the first thing I notice when I open the jar up. It’s not a chemical type of scent, it’s more of a natural scent and is pretty soothing experience.

The box that the jar comes in is pretty basic but the light green colour attracts my attention. Enough to make me add these to my cart asap. Two thumbs up for L’Oréal’s marketing crew.

From the packaging you can see what the three different masks do. It’s a nice snapshot to help you identify which mask is best for you and your skin concerns.

If you multi-mask this is ideal for your T zone as those are usually the oilier sections of most people’s skin. I am oily everywhere so I’m a fan of this mask all over my face.

I love the back of the boxes with the face illustration and the colour of the mask, it’s the little things that make me shell out my coin on products.

Maybe I am just a little weird like that!

You can find the ingredients on the bottom of each box. If you are more of a natural type of product then you may find some ingredients you aren’t a fan of. I personally like using something from different sections of most product’s ingredients list.

I do try to lean towards the natural side more often but my skin needs a whole help so I use any weapon I can.

Pure Clay Mask Exfoliating & Smoothing Red Algae Mask Review

Exfoliating & Smoothing Red Algae Mask

The Red Algae mask is my favourite of the three. It may be the exfoliation of the mask that I love, which is odd because I try to avoid manual exfoliation products.

The star ingredient in this mask is red algae. Red Algae helps with antioxidants and texture.

This mask goes on super smooth and feels great when I apply it on my face.

I have no idea what red algae smells like but this mask has a delightful scent. It may have an added fragrance to it but I didn’t find it overpowering. I’m very sensitive to smells that easily trigger a headache. The biggest culprits for me are candles and perfumes that really set me off.

I have come across some skincare products that are too much for me to handle especially since they sit on my face for an extended time. I definitely didn’t find that to be the case here at all.

It contains milled apricot seeds that exfoliates my skin and helps to reveal my skin’s glow. A very long time ago, when I was a youngin’ learning about makeup I was a big user of the very well known St Ives Apricot Scrub. This gives me the same obsession of that scrub from all those years ago.

The Red Algae mask is designed to tighten pores and exfoliate.

I love how this exfoliates my skin leaving it feel super soft after use. It dries like all the previous clay masks I’ve used but when I wash it off I can feel the grittiness of the mask. It’s very gentle and doesn’t leave my skin irritated.

Due to the exfoliation benefits of this mask you can apply this mask to rough areas such as the cheeks or forehead. I even like to apply it under my chin/neck area because sometimes I need some extra exfoliation a bit lower from my chin/jawline area. I have texture issues in those areas from the cystic acne I get around my jawline.

Pure Clay Mask Detoxifying - Brightening Charcoal Mask Review

Detoxifying & Brightening Charcoal Mask

This mask is probably the best suited to my skin on paper because it contains charcoal.

Charcoal acts as a magnet for impurities, dirt and all the nasties that my skin builds up from just daily wear and tear.

Pure Clay Mask Detoxifying - Brightening Charcoal Mask Review Sample

The texture is very thick and creamy, I was expecting it to be a bit rough and hard to spread so it was a nice surprise to get the opposite.

The scent is actually very pleasant. I’ve used a charcoal bar facial soap previously and that was very earthy smelling. I thought this would have a similar scent but it actually ended up smelling very similar to the Red Algae mask. It most likely has an added fragrance in it but it’s very pleasant and not overwhelming. It’s just enough where I can enjoy the treatment comfortably.

The charcoal works deep into my pores, leaving my skin detoxified and brightened.

I love the clean and pore-less look it gives me. It’s just the right amount of skin boost that makes me want to keep going back to it.

The tip L’Oréal gives is to use Charcoal mask on dull areas such as the cheeks or chin. Those areas are usually the hang outs for skin’s impurities but they aren’t prepared for charcoal to come in and save the day! Charcoal comes in and acts as a magnet to draw out those suckers from their hiding places. No squatting allowed unless you are here to make my skin look fabulous.

Final Thoughts

I really LOVE these masks! One of the things I applaud the most from L’Oréal is the amount of information they provide to give us a visual idea which mask is best for us if we are looking to only buy one. Here is the Australian website for L’Oréal if you’d like more information.

I will admit I was skeptical about these masks. In my mind I thought no way I’d get high quality results from a low cost mask, boy was I wrong and happily so.

Another huge shout out I’d like to add is the packaging. They come in a thick glass jar with a cute square lid.

Would I repurchase?

Absolutely, in a heartbeat! These masks are super affordable, they are about $20-sh but keep an eye out because they seem to go on sale regularly. I’ve seen them on sale for 30-40% off. Apparently some people seem to think these are a god dupe for some more expensive masks. I recently haven’t used a mask similar to these so that I can compare them against anything else.

Have you tried any of these masks? I’d love to hear your experience with any of these masks or if you have any recommendations in the comments below.
